Yet the homestead was only built in 2007, when its original owners Wolfgang and Antje created a country estate that reflected both their European roots and Gundaroo’s historical past. The result is stunning. Traditional farmhouse verandas wrap around the terracotta lime-washed brick home, embraced by a garden that blends French provincial style and a country cottage garden.
Two sheltered courtyards and a wisteria-covered outdoor dining area extend the home’s living and entertaining space.
Inside the home, the kitchen is undeniably and charmingly French provincial, albeit with Tuscan marble benchtops, with hints of whimsy including the hand painted Delf-style tiles.
The Parlour, or reception room, is where the home truly inspires. Soaring white wood-panelled ceilings, a sparkling chandelier and the expansive Jotul fireplace give life to a light and airy space, with verdant views of the garden only enhancing the sense of peace. The Parlour is available as a wet weather option for elopements with under 12 guests (ceremony only).
Find your own peaceful haven in the Birds Meadow Retreat, a dedicated bridal suite wing under the same roof but entirely separate to the main homestead quarters.
The Retreat is available for photoshoots, during the wedding and overnight for those couples, depending on the package chosen.
The Retreat is also available for private overnight bookings, via the enquiries form.
